Joe Biden Calls for More Secret Service Resources After 2nd Trump Assassination Attempt
The U.S. President, Joe Biden, has urged Congress to bolster the Secret Service with additional resources, suggesting that he believes their current capacity is insufficient to ensure optimal performance.
Biden expressed his candid evaluation of the Secret Service to journalists outside the White House on Monday, following a second assassination attempt this year on Donald Trump, the former president and current Republican nominee.
When questioned about a comprehensive report into the incident, Biden expressed relief that Trump was unharmed and voiced concerns about the present state of affairs within the Secret Service. He emphasized: “I want to clarify one thing – The Secret Service requires additional support. I believe Congress should address their needs… They could use more personnel.”
The assassination attempt took place in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday while Trump was enjoying a round of golf at his club.As per law enforcement reports, agents from the Secret Service spotted the muzzle of an AK-style rifle protruding from some bushes approximately 400 yards away from where Trump was golfing. An agent fired a shot towards the area, causing the alleged shooter, Ryan Wesley Routh, to abandon his weapon and escape in a nearby SUV.
Besides the rifle, Routh reportedly left behind two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera according to Ric Bradshaw, Palm Beach County Sheriff.Routh was subsequently apprehended and arrested in an adjacent county.
Trump emerged unscathed from this incident and later issued a resolute statement asserting that he would “never surrender” despite attempts on his life.
This recent assassination attempt follows a previous one that occurred two months ago when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. This incident has been labeled as the agency’s “most significant failure” in decades. Read More
